Phoenix breathed in the cool night. The air was crisp, and slid down her throat like liquid mercury. She pushed through the bracken and undergrowth in the dense forest. It was really pretty in the spring, and the light was filtered green because of the layers of leaves. It was a shame that she couldn't share this with anybody. She knew there were hybrids out here. The rumors had been floating around town, about oversized birds, humans with cat ears, humans that weren't human.
The thing was... you had to be one to realize what was really going on. Phoenix smiled, and made her way deeper into the woods. Maybe there were others out here, maybe not. She would search, nonetheless.

Garrett ran through the forest, his footsteps barely audible in the quiet night. To anyone who didn't know better, he might seem like nothing more than a flash of white, a ghost among the trees, a trick of the moonlight. To those who took a closer look, who managed to get more than just a passing glance, they'd realize that, at least at the moment, he resemble a werewolf more than a human. But "wolf" wasn't really the right term either-he was more of a large white dog.
Rett slowed and stopped, beginning to grow weary. He hadn't been running from anything, just running for the sake of it. He leaned against a tree. Running his fingers through his fur, he wondered if any other experiments were around tonight. He knew there were many more out there, but he'd only met a few. Where could the rest be?

Phoenix heard footsteps. She turned quickly, snapping out her wings, ready to fly. She knew about the Chimera Corp, and she didn't want to be taken away again. But... what if it was another mutant? A nice one? Just in case, she hopped up a few branches and perched in one about 10 feet or so above the ground. She heard a crack, like a small stick had been broken, and some rustling. She reached over and pulled a dead limb out of the tree, pulling it onto her lap. She hoped th the hybrid that was coming was friendly.

From his spot leaning against the tree, Garrett could hear the rustling and shaking of tree branches nearby. At first he thought it might be a bird or something, but then realized whatever was making that sound was to large to be a bird. Maybe part-bird, but not an actual bird. He pushed himself off the tree, and strode through the forest, making no real attempt at stealth. If it was another experiment, they might have already picked up on his presence already.
Moving through the trees, he kept his eyes peeled for the source of the noise. He looked up to the canopy, and saw who he was looking for. Ten feet or so above his head, there was a girl perched on a branch, a dead stick in her lap. He stopped nearby, and looked up at her, waiting to see what she would do.

Phoenix dropped down from the limb. Standing in front of her was what seemed to be a huge dog. She didn't want to scare him, especially if he was another hybrid. She loosened her arms, tucked in her wings, and dropped her arms to her sides. She made sure to keep a good grip on the limb, just in case it was a memeber of the Chimera Corperation. "Hi," she said. Her voice was shaky. "I'm Phoenix."

Rett watched the girl drop down from the tree. It was definitely an experiment, an avian-he could see her wings clearly before she tucked them in. She still carried the limb in her hand. He didn't really blame her for arming herself. He looked down at himself, and realized he was still in his eraser-like form. That probably wasn't reassuring, and he could hear her voice shaking already. "Sorry," He mumbled, shifting back to his human form. "I'm Garrett Stepford," He said, introducing himself.

Phoenix stared at the teen standing in front of her. Was he a new type of Eraser? No, probably not. He wouldn't have shifted to a human - Erasers were better as wolves. "Why are you here?" she asked tentativly. He may be on her side, he may not. Either way, she had to find out.

Rett shrugged his shoulders, not really knowing what to give as a response . "I don't know. Don't really have any other place to be a the moment," He replied, "Why are you here?" She still seemed tentative, and again, he did not blame her-every experiment he came across also seemed weary when they met someone new. He was weary of her too, though he didn't show it as much. There was always the chance that she could decide to attack him; but he could probably take her on.

"Trying to find other mutants." It wouldn't hurt to let him know that. She ruffled her wings a bit, showing him that she was a hybrid too. "I escaped from Itex Canada a while ago, and I don't know anybody." She could stil fly away if she needed to, and start a new life elsewhere. There she had the advantage. "You're the first one I've met yet." She smiled a bit, trying to be friendly. It was hard. He was the first hybrid she had ever seen outside of a cage.

Garrett nodded, seeing her wings just cemented what he was already fairly sure about. He felt kind of bad for her, being on her own for so long. At least when he had first left the Itex branch in Connecticut that he'd come from, there had been other experiments with him. They'd gone their separate ways, eventually, but at the beginning, they'd been there. "I've seen a couple others," He told her, "Not many, but some. Mostly around here."

"Others? So you're not an Eraser?" Phoenix asked. Although he did look the part, he was enormus wolf and also a pretty cute guy, he might not be a bad hybrid. If he wasn't an Eraser, she could maybe drop the dead limb. Maybe they could be friends. That would be good.

"No," He replied, shaking his head. "I'm sort of an offshoot experiment from the Eraser program, but we were designed to be bodyguards, instead of hunters. I was only one of a few who were successful, but I've never met any of the others." He didn't include the fact that he had been created to guard whitecoats, but that hardly seemed important to him. They'd lost any chance they had of him protecting them when they threw him in a cage, like the other experiments.

"Oh." That was really all Phoenix could say. She was still kindof in shock at meeting another hybrid. "I'm, uh, I'm an avian hybrid. They were trying to bring back legendary creatures, unicorns, dragons, that stuff, and they were using me to see if recessive human genes and almost-phoenix genes would blend well. I guess they did." She gestured at herself with a slight smile. "I escaped a while ago." She set down the stick. She probably wouldn't be needing that anymore. "But, I don't know any other experiments. Other then you, I mean." Could they possibly be friends? They were both in the same position, after all...

Garrett raised his eyebrows at the idea of trying to create legendary creatures. It wasn't as though they had the DNA for it. But hey, with the right combinations, like horse and narwhal or lizard and bat, they could probably come close. He watched her put the stick she'd been carrying down, glad she seemed to be relaxing around him. "So, anything in particular bring you to Hampton, or did you just happen to wander here?" He asked.

"No, just rumors. I was flying through and I stopped to eat. heard this was a place for some mutants, but I never really saw anyone." Phoenix sat down, exhausted after hours of searching, both in the air and on the ground. "What about you? Oh, I forgot, what hybrid are you?"
