In a world of extreme beauty...[/i][/color]
It's 20,000 years into the future. The human population was wiped out once already, and the world leaders are protesting vehemently to that happening again. Everything is high-tech, with hoverboards and closets that react to your needs. Wealth and greed are no longer issues.
But the most extreme change is the appearance of the citizens. Children are being turned into super-models through extensive surgery, so no one will argue over looks again. From the outside, everything seems perfect. The younger adolescents envy the Pretties, who received the surgery. Each of them strives for the day when they too can become beautiful.
But what they don't know is that, during the surgery, leasions are implanted in the Pretties' brains. They cause the people to not be able to retaliate or think for themselves. They live their whole lives in a haze, a party-filled, spending-time-in-pleasure-gardens haze. Some of the Uglies have seen this and fled to a place called the Smoke, a refuge for those who don't want to be made Pretty. One of the adults in the Smoke have come up with a cure for the lesions, and they will soon infiltrate the city...
The Specials, guardians of the city, are angered by this. They were specially made with fangs and sharp nails and super-abilities. They are also the only ones who know the truth about the Pretties. The Specials have discovered the Smoke's location and are planning to wage a war, taking only a few survivors and slaughtering the rest.
Meanwhile, a civil war is dividing the Specials into sperate leagues. Vanessa, a former Smokey, has been recently been made a Special, and has a devout hate for Shay Sparks, leader of the Specials. It seems harmless from a glance, but tension is building, and a final curtain must fall enventually. Each of the Specials are taking sides, and now even the Uglies and Pretties have decisions to make.
In this city, allegiances run deep.
