The mall, most people, normal people, went to the mall. There were so many people walking around, arms filled with shopping bags. It was hard to see why people like to shop, then again, Gaia didn't fancy shopping that much anyway. No one could see where she was perched, high on the rooftops in a small little alcove. Gaia had wondered if anyone had snipered people from up here but that would be something she really didn't want to know. It scared her. Guns were something Gaia hated, they could kill so many people. A shiver passed through her body at the mere thought. She preferred fighting with her hands and not weapons unless it came to that. Weapons did more damage, at least in her eyes they did.
"One, two, three-" Gaia was counting, it was something to do to pass the time. Her wings were folded into her back and she was wearing her chuck taylors, with army pants and a jacket. It was easy to fly in those clothes, so she kept them, and even got some more when her old pair got severely bloodstained. A screech came from her, sounding like a hawk. Gaia resisted the temptation to laugh when people looked up, trying to find a hawk that didn't exist. Gaia hadn't slept well the past few nights, so she was pretty tired. A yawn escaped her mouth and she held up a hand to stiffle it.

The wind pushed against Baileys ears making odd noises that could only be heard if you where going faster then twenty miles per hour. Bay didn't know how fast she was going but she was flying, literally and figuratively. She was gliding on a strong wind, her chocolate brown wings comfortably spread out. Beneath her she saw only fluffy white clouds. She knew well that with out them her cover would be blown and she'd be caged up for the rest of her life. Never again. With a powerful push of her wings the young mutant push a tad pit farther.
A screech filled Baileys ears along with the sound of the wind. The screech was something that Bay knew well, in fact she could probably hear it from anywhere... even if she was stuck in a tornado. The screech only meant on thing. Gaia. Titling her wings sightly Bailey started heading downwards. She new that her flocks Beta wasn't in any trouble, but it was always good to be in the company of her makeshift family. Gaia wasn't hard to find, perched on the top of a close by mall out of site from many normal people. "Are you slaking on your job? Wheres Max's flock" Bailey's voice tsked at her older sibling, but the smile on her face showed that she was only joking around. Bailey landed next to Gaia, still out of sight from the average one below. "So whats up?"

Shane had been one of those days when Shane just needed to relax. Get away from all the pressures of his 'job' and be able to spread his wings. He always had his wings either in his back, which he hated. Or they were very tight against his back which was uncomfortable at times. He smiled as the air caught his wings like sails. Most people would never experience the flight that Shane was given but many wouldn't have to go through the pain of the labs now would they? Those were the worst years of his life. Since he has been free everything seems to be so much more fun. Today he was slacking off his 'job' and was just roaming the skies, high above the clouds.
Since he had such large wings gliding was never a problem for him. He just fallowed the wind. When most people would be shocked to see a kid flying which was why he was high above the clouds. Luckily, thanks to genetic modification he was able to breath perfectly at this hight. He had his ear buds from MP3 player and he had been listening to music. Then he heard the screech of a hawk not to far away. It had to be Gaia. He tucked his MP3 player into his pockets and tucked his wings in and sort of dove and came to a stop of the top of a mall where he found Gaia and Bailey, two of his own flock's members. He smiled and walked over toward them "Hi guys!" he said happily, he always enjoyed being around his flock.

The voice of Bailey pierced her thoughts, a smile came upon her lips as she looked at one of the younger members of the flock. Gaia looked at Bailey like a sister, since she had no blood relatives of her own, heck, all the flock was her siblings. Blood only took you so far, when your not exactly human, family is what you make of it. Family were those that stayed by your side, helped you, cared for you. Argued with you and then made up later. Gaia would protect the flock no matter what happened. Through thick and thin, but Gaia would not abandon them. Sometimes she liked to be alone, but being around the flock was even better. "Slacking? No my dear, just relaxing." Gaia grinned. "Max isn't around, but there are other interesting things." Gaia had been watching for a while. She knew Bailey was joking around, but it was good to see the smile on her young sisters face. "To be honest, I could use sleep but adrenaline has kept me going." Gaia admitted. No point lying to the flock, they would figure it out sooner or later. "What about you? Where have you been?" Gaia asked. Was she worried? Sometimes, but they all could fight, and if she worried and became over protective too much, things would turn out much worse.
As her eyes trailed back downwards to the earth below, another voice entered her hearing and she glanced over to see Shane. "Hey Shane!" Gaia replied with a smile. "How was the flight? Both of you of course." Gaia always like to see how the flock was doing, making sure they were okay. Her right leg began to cramp up when she looked down at a woman with crimson hair. "Hey you guys. Look." Gaia pointed to the woman. Gaia didn't know why she was getting vibes from the girl, but she really wanted to check it out. "Invisibility would really come in handy right now. Any of you guys getting a vibe from her?" Gaia asked, keeping an eye on the girl.

Bailey heard Shane come up. The smile on her face only became bigger. The more the marrier. Especially when the more people belong to her "family". sure it wasn't like the brady bunch, but what family was like a tv show? I mean come on. Still Bailey loved her flock, even if she didn't wear it on her selves and go around screaming it to the world. Working with her talents Bay copied herself. Really she wasn't sure how it worked, but she knew that out of know where another her would appear. And from that other her she could see everything as if she was her, like she was in two places at once. Its to hard for her to explain it to any one even her flock. The other Bailey walked up to her other sibling "Hey curly" She reached up to run her hands threw Shane's curly hair. Granted she was way to short, but with a small flap of her wings she was able to hover for a few moments. Done greeting her older brother Baileys other self disappeared in the air.
Now only one Bailey remained, the one sitting next to Gaia. I've been around you know, flyings been good when its not all raining." Bay couldn't help but let out a small frown when Gaia complained of her lack of sleep. "You should take a break... if anything happens to Max and her flock we'll take care of them" In Bay's mind Gaia took this job to seriously, she need a big vacation to anywhere. A while back Bay had started collecting her money, but he pile of change never got much bigger then 43 cents. One down fall of no real parents, no allowance.
Hey you guys. Look Baileys eyes followed Gaia's finger into the crowd of mindless humans in the crowd. Bay was able to find the girl easily because, of course, Gaia was right, there was something different about that one. "Yeah. i know what you mean... But whats different about her?" Bailey asked as she pulled her wings tighter to her body, for some reason it made her feel safer.

Shane laughed as the other Bailey came and ruffled his hair a bit. He then tried to put back to normal by shaking his head franticly. Anyone else that would do that he would probably end up getting really angry but when he was around his own flock he didn't mind. That was the fun of family or their family since none of them were related by blood. Shane had never known his parents, the only thing he could remember was being in a lab where he was tortured and nearly killed many times. The only good thing that ever came out of that place was that he met his flock. He responded to Gaia's question "Oh it was fine, the wind is quite strong but other then that pretty much perfect flying weather." he smiled and then looked at the sky. Everything seemed fine.
The girls were looking down at another girl who seemed to give them both a creepy vibe. He walked over and looked. He said "She does seem a little bit, um, different then the other people around her and I can honestly say she is giving me a bit of a strange vibe." He then replied to the invisible comment "I could watch her a bit invisibly, but it is a mall and I am the only one out of all of us that can retract their wings into their bodies." then he looked at Gaia and Bailey "That would probably be the most invisible, if I do say so myself." he said calmly before looking down again.

Mint dived. It was a wonderful feeling of refreshment and freedom. Not being bound- not at all- to anything. Her eyes picked out three other avian hybrids, her raptor vision was to thank. Realizing she was going way too low, she pulled out her wings to slow herself, Mint gained many meters of altitude. She had to push herself hard to be able to reach the other hybrids. It would've been nice if she'd realized their being there sooner, but yanking out of a dive was much easier than somethings she'd done.
Mint had seen these ones before, they were "the new flock" as far as she knew. Well, she read the paper once in a blue moon but still heard news when she was around town. You couldn't help but do it... It was such a nice day. Bright, not cold, just a nice spring day. At least it wasn't raining. An awesome highlight. That was the break through, a time to rejoice. Hell, she needed the excuse. She landed with her arm out infront of her. She crossed her fingers: Not hostile looking...
