Ruby sat in her little cage with her stuffed rabbit buster, curled up in a a little ball beneath the towel that was given her. She had watched people go in and out of the labs all day, doing their duties and such. The Experiments were being experimented on a lot more lately and she had seen Xelious taken once and being brought back in in really bad shape. The young man looked pretty bad when she had seen him and the pup was concerned for his well being. Over the time she had know Xelious, she had realized how important he was to her. He was like a big brother to her and he always tried to cheer her up when things were down, but right now it looked to be Ruby's turn to cheer up Xel.
"Mr Xelly? Are you okay? You're really beat up, maybe we should call one of the actual doctors so they can bandage you up." Ruby told him, her ears flat as she looked through the side of her cage. She whimpered softly to herself as she shifted her bloodied and bruised neck a little bit to crane it enough to see around the room. Apparently Fusionist had been testing the same collars the fox girl had help built, on the creator herself causing several cuts and bruises to form. The 'medical' doctors that helped to the bare minimum of first aid on the experiments had poured hydrogen peroxide on the cuts and slightly bandaged them. But with allt he constant tests the bandages were bound to rip at some point in time. Poor Ruby, she wanted to get out so badly and the tales of her sister out in the sunlight made her desire it even more.
"The operations are increasing lately mr Xelly...did they give you one?" The Fox girl asked witha hesitant voice.

Xelious groaned slightly as he rolled onto his side, looking through his one unswollen eye at Ruby. "They can stuff the doctors," he said thickly, then making a face, he turned his head, spitting blood through the bars on the opposite side of the cage from her.
"Nothing mysterious about what's going on," he added, continuing. "They like to beat the hell out of me, and they beat the hell out of me again. They're getting better at it... I blacked out after that first hour in the chair over there," he added, nodding toward the chair in the corner that he remembered them chaining him to.
It burned in the back of his mind, the thought that they had done that in front of her, that they'd made her watch it. It had always tortured him that he hadn't been able to spare Emmy any pain when they were in the labs together... now it was the same thing with her sister. But he pushed back those thoughts, knowing that he needed to keep up a strong front for Ruby's sake. "Nothing to worry too much about, though, Sparky," he added, managing what was supposed to be a reassuring smile, but probably lost much of the effect due to his swollen lip.

Ruby saw him spitting blood and worry filled her quickly. She was worried about him the fact that they were beating the living daylights out of him was not a good sign. Actually, it was a rather bad sign, what if they were thinking about terminating the bird man. If they did, then...then.... Ruby couldn't think about that right now. On his statement on nothing mysterious going on the fox girl shook her head at him, her ears flat and her eyes gazing downwards. Something was up and it was obvious in the foxes voice and body tone.
"Yes it is, Fusionist has been making me test the collar on myself and the scientists have been taking more and more experiments for operations." Ruby told him, the franticness in her voice entering rather quickly. "It horrible I can hear some of them screaming."
Ruby paused for a long time, her body shaking as she blinked back tears. The Fox girl clung to buster feebly in a vain hope that the stuffed Rabbit would protect her from what was to come. If that were true, the fox girls life would be a lot easier. "I am scheduled for another operations today. They are going to do something bad to me I know it." Ruby's voice hitched on tears. "I want to go home and be with you and Emmy! I want to stay safe now I don't want them to touch me all over again then hurt me with their machines. Mr Xelly....I don't want to be hurt again." The little fox kits eyes were still welled with tears as she curled up in a small ball her body convulsing with sobs.

Xelious clenched his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut at her words. "Another operation..." The words echoed in his head. They were experimenting on her. They were experimenting on this little girl, the only family that his mate had left, the one person who was close enough for him to protect... and he couldn't. He couldn't protect her. They were going to do whatever they wanted to her, whatever sick, twisted things came to their minds, and he could do nothing about it. He was powerless.
His fingers, already idly tucked around the bars of his cage, clenched around them in rage. How could he be powerless? How had he allowed this? This... perversion of a laboratory was making him weak, had made him helpless!
I am not weak! The thought screamed through his mind, even as the winds in the room suddenly blasted to life. All around them, things began to be sucked up into the swirling vortex. An empty cage clanged off the wall as he began a terrifyingly rapid orbit around the room. The workbench that Ruby worked at was smashed to jagged splinters as it careened off the ceiling and the other swirling debris. Everything in the room, everything save for the two occupied cages near the middle, was sucked up into the air.
The door swung open, a guard rushing in to see what was happening a cold, unsettling smile crossed Xelious's face as the man was thrown against the opposite wall, where a flying cage slammed into him, leaving a red smear where the man had been.
Then, Xelious thrust his hand at Ruby's cage, and one of the spinning cages was blown into it, smashing into the lock corner-first.
Xelious took a shallow, tired breath as the winds dissipated, the cages and debris falling noisily to the floor. Without the swirling winds, the room seemed eerily silent, with only the creak of the hinges on the door to Ruby's cage to break it.
"Go," Xelious gasped. "They're going to want me now, they won't be looking for you. Make yourself small and run, get outside, and dig your way under the fence."

Ruby's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates as the wind around her started to whip around like some twisted tornado. She watched as things were flung across the room and she couldnt help but smile when the work bench she had always been chained to was one of the victims of this slaughter of inanimat objects. However when her own cage was lifted up the fox girl panicked a little bit just before she realized what Xel was doing. Her eyes widened as she stepped out of the cage, looking around the room hesitantly. She held Buster close to her and then listened to the words of her sisters boyfriend, her eyes wide.
She thought about this for only a moment before tears welled in her eyes shaking her head from side to side furiously. "NO! I don't want to leave you here all alone without anyone to talk to! I want you to come with me to Emmy! Don't you want to see her again....she's your princess you need to go back to your princess. Thats your job remember? To save your damsel as a knight? You can't just stay here!" Ruby told him

"I won't," Xelious growled. "But I can't sneak out like you. And if you come with me, I can't guarantee that I can protect both of us right now." He grunted as he pushed himself into something resembling a sittng position.
"You go. Sneak out. When I can get out, I'll follow. Just go, and..." He thought for a minute. He couldn't tell her where to go, he wasn't stupid enough to think that this room wasn't being monitored, and the tapes would be checked after they cleaned up. Grunting, he ripped off a big piece of his shirt, then pulled out a loose feather. A gust of wind blew a jagged splinter of wood with a nail in it over to his cage. He picked it up, then jabbed the nail into his arm.
Using the feather as a moderately effective quill, he scrawled directions onto the rag of his shirt in his blood, using his blood as ink. The directions would take her to the diner that he and Emerald always went to, with a note to tell the owner that she was Emmy's sister. He loved Emerald... he would take care of Ruby until Emmy showed up, and might be able to get a word to her somehow. Wrapping the cloth around the piece of wood, he slid it across the floor to Ruby's cage. "This'll tell you what to do. Get out, get to Emmy, and tell her I'll be there as soon as I can. Don't let her come back here. I'll get out... I just need enough time."
He slumped back on his back again. "Now go."

Ruby listened to Mr Xelious carefully, trying to fully comprehend what he was saying. The young man seemed awfully determined to have her escape first before he did. She watched as he took one of his wings and dipped it in his own blood, she wanted to cry out for him not to do that but the young man already did. The Fox girl watched him as he filled out some kind of directions on the rag of his shirt, just before he gave it to her. Ruby had taken it from him gingerly, her eyes still wide as she read the instructions quickly.
There was a long silence as Ruby read the instructions, her mind racing with possibilities. Would she make it out in time? Was this man Mr Xelious was telling her about trustworthy? Would she be able to reach her sister again and finally most importantly...would Xelious be able to escape? All of these thoughts streamlined through the foxgirl's head as she the shirt, eyes darting back and forth frantically her photographic memory starting to kick in.
Ruby looked over at Xelious with a small sad smile, giving him a small wave. She took a spare rope she found and tied Buster to her back."You better escape soon Mr Xelly! Or Emmy will be really sad and so will I! I love you Mr Xelly." Ruby told him before morphing into her fox form, the shirt now tightly clenched in her jaws. The bunny was still tied on her back oddly enough making her look awfully silly but it didn't look to be a concern of Ruby's she was primarily worried about Xel's wellbeing.
It was obvious she had really come to care for Xelious in the time that had gone by and it made Ruby feel like he was part of their family now. Ruby then bolted from the room , running as fast as she could, staying close to the wall. She didn't even notice how fast she was running but it seemed to be fast enough so no one saw her. Whenever someone turned she darted into a corridor or a hallway, not making a noise. When there was too many people in the main hall Ruby saw an open air vent and managed to climb through the ventilation system all the way out to the outside world.
No one had seen her, no alarms had gone off, the only thing that was going through the fox girl's mind right now was that she was free....SHE WAS FREE! Ruby jumped for joy in her fox form happily yipping. With the directions on where she was supposed to go in mind Ruby once again started to run, slightly slower this time, but was running, to the place she was supposed to go.

Xelious gave a relieved sigh as Ruby escaped. He tried to calm himself, knowing that he had very little time to get himself together. That guard had been sent to see what the disturbance was. The fact that the little indoor tornado had stopped would be a sign that he'd succeeded, but the fact that he didn't check in again would raise a few eyebrows. He had to get out, be ready by the time they arrived.
He took a deep breath, focusing on what he was about to do. Holding onto the bars of his cage, he drove his feet into the back of the latch on his cage, the weakest point he knew of. Over and over he kicked at it, growing more frustrated with each kick. He would get out of here. These people, these monsters wouldn't hold him! With a final cry of rage, he slammed his heel into the abused latch, and the door finally flew open with the loud snap of breaking metal.
He crawled out of the cage and stood up, reveling in the ache as his muscles stretched, his legs and back fully straightening for the first time in weeks. He only had a moment to enjoy the sensation, though, as he heard the faint click of someone's shoes on the metal floor, running down a distant hall. Looking around, Xelious did the only thing he could think of. They would certainly expect him to wait next to the door in ambush, so he lept into the air, catching hold of a light fixture and quickly using it to brace himself in the corner over the door.

Upon ariving thier Martin Smith had no idea what was going on, all he knew was that some experiments had escaped and he as a guard would have to go catch them. Now he had never been to good at catching things so he had a pretty good idea what he would do if he saw anythign escape. Though, he didn't notice it when a certain fox ran through his legs. He only noticed the male infront of him when he stupidly opened the door to find Xel grabbing the light fixture. The young man let out a small cry of panic, feeling stupid for comming into work today, due to the fact he had never delt with anything like this before. So he did the only thing he could do....call for back up. He scrambled far away from Xel, his young boyish eyes and cherrub looking face filled with fear at this unpredictable experiment.
"Please...Im new don't hurt me....umm please go to your cage?"

Xelious dropped down between the man and the door, a hard glare in his eyes. "No," he said.
"P... please? Just g-get back in your cage, no one needs to know that I found you out..."
"No," Xelious said, folding his arms. "Let me tell you how this is going to work. I'm going to walk out that door, I'm going to leave this building, and you aren't going to do a thing to stop me. Do we understand each other?"
"Th-they'll fire me if I do that. You have to get back in your cage."
"Fire you? Fire you!? This is about more than your pathetic little job!" Xelious shot back, acid in his voice. "This is my life. They'll lock me up, experiment on me, and kill me. And you. Are worried. About your pathetic. Little. Job." Xelious was seething now as he advanced on the guard. A part of him knew that he should feel sorry for this pitiful little guard, but all he felt was rage, rage and... power.
Red began to creep into the edges of his vision as he advanced on the guard, who fumbled for his radio. "I. am. leaving. NOW!" he bellowed, lashing out at the guard.
* * *
What... happened?
Xelious looked around, unable to remember how he had gotten here. The last thing he remembered, he'd just escaped from his cell. A guard had come in, and he'd felt so... angry. Now...
He was kneeling near a stream, surrounded by trees. He could hear a faint alarm in the distance, telling him that he'd gotten a good ways away from the laboratories... although he didn't know how. Looking down, though, he paled.
He was covered in blood. Glancing at his reflection in the stream, he could tell that he was covered in blood and gore from head to toe. Beginning to shiver, although he was not cold at all, Xelious shoved his hands into the water, rubbing at them furiously, frantic to get the blood off of him. He similarly doused his face, shoving his head into the water and rubbing at it until he was sure that all of the blood and gore had come free of his face and hair. He was about to stand when he noticed the bag next to him.
Opening it, he found that it had a nondescript, clean set of clothes in it, along with some unspoilable food supplies, a prepaid cell phone, a butterfly knife, and a few odds and ends that looked useful. He hesitated, then stripped down out of his torn and blood-soaked clothes. He submerged himself in the stream, scrubbing himself furiously with his hands, then grabbing handfulls of grit from the stream bed to scrub at his skin with, until his skin was raw, but blood-free.
Shivering slightly, he got out and put on the clothes from the bag. He removed the battery from the cell phone, then zipped the bag up. He used the butterfly knife to cut slits in his shirt for his wings, then folded it back up, putting it in his pocket.
He was free.
Why did that make him feel uneasy?
