Mariel had always had a way of telling people's thoughts and calming them down. But this was different, Xelious needed her to help his mate. Or so she thought- if she started away he may decide to change his mind. He had realized her intentions. Why continue? It was almost fun.
"Tell me more about your mate."
She prompted, showing that she was falling for it all. Something told her this was a bad idea, and that some how she was cheating. Someone could beat her for 10 years and she wouldn't stop doing things like this.
Mariel was actually concerned to some extent of what Crone would do to this wolf hybrid. She couldn't recall when he'd been caged, but it was like starving a tiger and letting it out in New York. And there was something, very wrong, about that.
"Not completely, but some of them do."
Not being trusted her butt. She held the laughter back to the edge of her mind. Maybe she could pretend to be used and get taken out by Crone in a fake attempt to help Wolf girl.

Xelious couldn't help but smile at the thought of Emmy. "What do you want to know? You can't tell me that you can't just pull her file and see whatever you want to know," Xel said. Ah, Emmy... damn it, I need to get out of here.
Here lay the big question. She could do whatever she wanted to get him to trust her. She could probably make a good show of it. But the bottom line was that he was in the cage and she wasn't. That meant that she'd have to do a hell of a lot to prove that she wasn't just putting on a show.
That, of course, didn't mean that he couldn't use those attempts to his advantage. If, of course, she really was trying to earn his trust for whatever twisted reason.

He'd gotten something wrong about her. Unless she had permission, from her commander, she couldn't just go and look at a file. There were simple ways to get around that, but she chose to do nothing of the sort.
"No, I can't. But I can still choose not to listen to a bunch of lunatics over you."
She tried a spot of charm. It was well concealed, and didn't show through. It was like stuffing in a pillow. She quietly repeated her favorite quote in her mind, and whispered it oh so quietly.
"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me the truth."
She might have as well not said it. It was barely audible to a even a cat. She knew little about bird's ears sensitivity, so made no judgement here. It wasn't something she could rely on as a fact.
"Of course, if you want me to get your and you mate's files, I can do that. Or anyone elses's. Crone's for example."
She fancied that idea. And she wasn't forbidden to get permission, and besides- she had an ear piece as well as a mouth piece.

Xel shrugged. "What do you want to know about her?" he asked. He wouldn't give away anything that would make it easier to find her (not that he held any illusions that he was making it impossible to find her. All he could hope for was to not make it easier), but the truth was he liked talking about her. he missed her incredibly... and even if the person was playing an angle, it was nice to have the possibility of talking about her with someone who wouldn't sneer and say how she must be desperate to be with him, or how they're going to breed her with something, or whatever other bullshit Fusionist, the other scientists, or Crone tried to say.

What exactly did she want to know? What she looked like? How long he'd known her?
"The usual."
It was too plain, Mariel figured she'd hit some sort of a nerve. Well, she could just ask what Wolf girl looked like... The extent of her power would be too much. And honestly, she really didn't want to look at her file.
"Well, what's she like?"
Mariel's tongue was intercepted by her curiousity. It wasn't what she'd meant to say, but it was even better. She watched innocently for his answer. She felt uneasy. It wasn't a great question, the more she thought about it. She could make Xelious totally ignore her, and was fairly certain that would happen.

He shrugged. "She's a little confrontational sometimes. The wolf in her, I think. And she's strong, she never shows weakness. And she can be sweet and caring when the mood strikes her, too."
He smiled. "She's a girl. Just like any other girl most of the time. The only difference being that she's my girl."
It was nice and vague. There was nothing he felt uncomfortable having said, since nothing he said would help them find her or defeat her. He looked up at Moon, guaging her reaction.

(Mariel's last name is Moon) She blushed as he explained her personality. She would be careful of the wolf in her if she had to fight. That was for sure. Her tiger fur pattern flashed on her body, growing darker and lighter as she struggled to control it. This was what happened when she was embarassed.
The stripes lowered to a gray color, and the snowy color disappeared. It would take a minute to disappear completely. It was annoying having that happen everytime she felt emotion.
A short smile followed her expression.
" She sounds like an interesting person."
Her nails clicked against the cage. She turned briefly and whispered something into her hand. "No permission granted." Came the reply softly.
"Does she resemble a wolf much?" It was a perfectly open question.

(yep, but that's the only name she gave him)
He shrugged. "Just like you resemble a tiger much," he said, giving a perfectly open answer to that perfectly open question.
He was a bit amused and a bit intrigued by her reaction to his description. Unlike Fusionist and Crone, she wasn't mocking their relationship. This meant, to him, one of two things. Either she was the 'good cop' to their 'bad cop,' or else she had a bit more regard for relationships like his and Emmy's. Or maybe both. The main questions were what he could do with it, and how he could determine which was the case.

Her hands found her soft, cat ears. Mariel made a short humming sound. She was proud of her ears, coated in white and black fur. She brushed a scar on them, it seared and she pulled it back. They pinned back.
"I have ears that resemble a tigers'."
It kind of shrugged Xelious's remark off, politely though. It seemed her response had brought this conversation to a new level. That was good. Maybe she'd earned some respect.
"What's it like to fly?"
Ever since she was little, Mariel had stared enviously at the flying experiments. It wasn't that she didn't like her hybrid animal, but that it looked so fun, and free. She had power under her paws, but flying was totally different.
The closest she could get to that was biking. She hardly fell because of her balance. You were still on a land-lock though. You still felt heavy. She'd never flown, and heck, probably wouldn't ever.

"Oh, did you mean physically?" he said, shrugging. It was an offhand remark, but could serve to completely invalidate any assumptions she might make about Emmy's appearance.
"Flying... ah... how to describe it. When you're flying, you're the world. You aren't bound to anything. You aren't just a rock on the ground... you're the wind. You can go anywhere and everywhere."
He understood the question... most people wanted to know. He wondered, briefly, if he could earn points with her, loosen her tongue a bit more if he offered to take her up in the air. Then again, that could come off as a setup just to try to drop her from a high place.

It sounded wonderful. Not being bound to Chimera, or a chain. And the travel speed, she could find experiments easily, and take them in the air. She bit her tongue, this could cause major problems if she wasn't careful.
"It must be great."
It sounded rather scary to some extent. Being lifted off the ground and all. It wasn't right, people were meant to stay land-locked. But that didn't apply to Xelious. Lucky. But unlucky that he wasn't part tiger. That was the best thing to be.
She was sure of it.
Besides, nothing was better than having a feeling of power under your paws, in her book. It was more fun than flying, she assured herself.
"Well, I like having the knoledge that I can probably take down anything with wings, so that makes up in my opinion."

"Hmmmm... that thought would bother me if I defined my life by how easily I could end something's life or get it locked in a cage." In truth, he'd been trained specifically to overcome the fact that avians lacked the natural weapons that the wolves and cats had. There was no reason for her to know it, though. Also, he hated talking about it, since he hated the fact that he knew how to kill.
Emmy was the fighter, after all. He was the talker, and the thinker. Unless he had to fight. Then he'd kick ass. "But yes... being the wind is great." As if to emphasize his point, a light breeze swirled through the room.

Mariel was slightly confused. It was fun to hunt, and to battle things. There's nothing wrong with- She thought, then was annoyed with herself for not realizing what he was getting at sooner. She played along yet.
"I don't see why you think that. It's good to hunt things."
She had another confused look cross her face. The wind was nice, it cooled you down on hot days, but it wasn't reliable in any way. You could fall, or drop and hurt yourself. Or be revealed. Now, she knew she didn't want to be avian at all.
They flew without support. They weren't stable.
(Have to go pronto. Sorry!)

"Why?" Xelious asked, looking her right in the eyes. There was no deception there this time. He really wanted to know why the girl thought that. He could probably get a lot of mileage out of 'why' before he had to start adding to the question. The bottom line was, as much as she was tiger, there was still a part of her that was human. It was, of course, even odds as to which side had sway over her instincts or emotions, but there was a chance (although he'd never rate it with anything resembling good odds) that some part of her humanity would have a problem with the hunting, if she ever gave it a chance to speak its mind.
Or she could be a sadist. Who knows.

Mariel found herself in a pinch. Her answer could mean a lot. As much as she tried not to show it, there was no good answer. Hell, I'm a good percent tiger, why is this not coming to me? It should, right? Mariel thought. Guessing she looked as if she was spacing out, a desperate answer formed in her mind.
"Well, it feels good. It exercises you body, keeps you in shape. And don't tell me you don't ever feel it either, even though I'm a rager, but it is a feeling of sheer power over something."
Mariel felt the need to add something to that. You didn't write a book to leave the reader piecing that together. And she wasn't about to, either. Much to plain for her. Her emotions bled into her words.
"I need it."
She wished she didn't. Was it natural in her? He feelings, her pride, her lust for battle?
