"Why? You seem smart, I'm sure you could find a way to feel powerful without seriously hurting someone. Doesn't it ever strike you as wrong that the only option is to put someone in the cage or end up there yourself?" Now Xelious was curious. He'd seen a flash of confliction on her face... or was it confusion? Some urges were hard to put to words, he admitted. He'd be hard pressed to describe why he felt the way he felt about a lot of things. This, however, wasn't one of them.
"So explain it to me. Please. Lord knows I could use some intelligent conversation after having only our Dear Doctor to speak to for a few weeks."

Dear doctor. She chuckled at the mention of that, that madman. Mariel shuffled her feet and sighed. What answer did he want? There were little he could give her. If she didn't go out and take down hybrids, what would they do? If Xelious was right about this, then she might as well keep doing what she was. No one could hold a Moon forever.
"You don't quite understand, I'm afraid. It must be the tiger in me." Sigh. "It's not like that. I could deny any mission I was given. I could leave here for years if I wanted to."
Damn she hoped all she'd said was perfectly true. But she wasn't going to turn down answering a question like that. But she could turn down a mission, she'd done it several times. Easily.
They just sent another hybrid out, but she always felt they were less efficent. Her own problem. She changed her thoughts to Xelious's last words which made her smile again.

"Ah, all right. So if they end up in the cages, that means that they're weak or unworthy, and deserve to be there. And since someone else would do it anyway, you might as well be the one to put them there." Xel wasn't quite buying it. There seemed to be at least a little more to this girl than she was letting on. How much, exactly, was the big question.
He shrugged, not seeming too concerned with her answer. "And you're happy with that?"

In the cage nestled next to Xelious a small figure stirred, it would very well seem that Xelious and Crone were not he only experiments thrown in here. It would seem that a fox with green eyes was now awakening in the cage, staggering within it groggily. Young Ruby Lupin was surprised that her cage had been moved once again and she figured that it must have been because she shorted out the power for the last room she was in. The fox girl didn't mean to it just sort of happened.
Ruby looked around the room she was in now, still in her fox form. She was rather curious to see the other occupants of the room besides her. The Fox girl gaze landed on Mariel, the Tiger hybrid, one of the very few people in these labs she actually liked. The girl had been the only one of the cat people that had been nice to Ruby and not treat her like some tool like the others did.
There was another voice talking however and it seemed to belong to a teenaged boy from what Ruby could tell. She heard him talk about how the weak and unworthy were thrown into cages which made her crawl closer to the bars to listen. Electricfox suddenly tripped clumsily against the front of the cage, making the metal making a very loud noise along with a yelp from Ruby. This no doubt warned them of her pressence.
Ruby's ears flattened to her foxy head and she looked up at the front of the cage guiltily. In truth right now she looked like a puppy that had done something wrong and was trying to make up for it with puppy dog eyes. Which was exactly what she was trying to do because she knew that Mariel would most likely look in her cage, scolding her for eavesdropping...again.

Xel, on the other hand, didn't seem perturbed by her apparent listening in. "Are you all right?" he asked, sure that she couldn't have hurt herself too badly in that little fall, but wanting to make sure anyway. He gave her a little friendly smile... but didn't let it last too long. He was still trying to figure Mariel out, and he didn't want to do anything that would risk her turning up her nose and walking away. God, she looks familiar... or maybe that's just my imagination.

She hadn't noticed Ruby. Probably because she lacked her tiger's sense of smell. Mariel gave Ruby a concerned smile, but decided not to say anything at that point. For once, she decided to blow of Xelious because (a) He was starting to annoy her (b) She was more interested in her foxy pal (c) Part of her wanted to scold her for listening, even if she wasn't playing close attention. Mariel exhaled deeply, letting her conversation go.
"How's my favorite fox?"
Let Xelious be as curious and annoyed as a swatted fly. She waited for Ruby to come out of fox-form so she could actually speak to her. At least Mariel could guess what she meant, which normally worked alright. It wasn't the same

Ruby looked up at Mariel brightly, turning into her human form. Her tail swished back and forth as she looked at the girl with a happy grin. At least her day was shaping up to be a better one. Her initial soreness from being experimented on had faded lightly, only the nasty wound on her arm remained. The Little fox girl sat in the front of her cage looking up Mariel with her stuffed rabbit tucked safely behind her. Some of the scientists had been using the rabbit earlier as a way to get Ruby frustrated enough to conduct more electricity, the men knew the fox girl never slept without Buster so it made it easy for them to torment the Foxling with it.
"Umm fine Miss Mariel, but they took me in for experiments earlier." Ruby looked downwards at the floor. "I thought you said they weren't going to do anymore this week? "
Ruby thought for a moment, thinking about what she was going to say next about the person in the cage next to hers. "Who is next to me? Did they capture an experiment again?" She asked

Ruby had her desired stuffed animal. Frankly, Mariel found it adorable. She looked up with concern. They never seemed to stop running tests on Ruby. Her electrical talents made her, supposedly, irresistible to the scientists. She quickly looked over Ruby's arm and stood up. Bending over, she snatched a small tube from a drawer.
"First things first. Here, put that on your cut. It'll numb it a spot." 1
Mariel considered letting Rub out of the cage for a bit, to stretch after being confined to a cage for weeks. It would certainly catch bird boy's attention.
"I don't have everything come through me first, dear. When was it?"
She stifled a yawn. It was getting relatively late. What was that last thing she'd said? It snapped back at her, Ruby couldn't see the signs.
"This is Xelious. And Bird kid, this is Ruby."

Ruby's ears flatened a bit when the cream was rubbed on her arm, knowing it would sting a bit for a moment before it soothed her wound. When the soothing started she rubbed her arm subconcusly as if remembering the exact time and place of the experiment.
"Well the experiment was this morning and I was in there almost all day. When you told me was yesterday." Ruby replied gathering the stuffed rabbit in her arms. She hugged it to her her chest, trying her best to pretend nothing bad would happen for a little while. It helped when she did so, it gave her hope of a brand new day. When she heard mention of the bird boy she arched an eyebrow slightly.
"Oh, hi Mr Xelly!" Ruby called over to the cage next to her.
That bright and happy tone sounded familiar, if anyone knew how to place it they would find a certain connection that they would be surprised to find.
(((Note Xel thinks Ruby is dead and so does em))

"Hello, Little One," Xelious said, smiling at the girl. Despite his smile, the sight of the small girl in the cage broke his heart, even more than the sight of someone as young as Mariel being twisted by the company that held him. What sort of life had this little girl had, that had been torn away from her? What sort of life could she have had? Was living in these cages all she knew?
Whenever I get out of here... I'm taking her with me. If it's the last thing I do. He'd rescued Emmy the last time... taking this girl shouldn't be much harder. Emmy could help him look after her until they found out where her family was... or if she could go back to them.

Despite what Ruby was going through, she seemed perfectly cheery, happy. Why couldn't everyone be like that? Maybe the fact she had to hunt people down and kill them could do that to a kid. Assuming Rub was able to smell Crone's fresh scent, she decided to identify it.
"Crone, the panther hybrid was here earlier. They sent him on a wolf hybrid... Xel here knows, ask him."
A look to Xelious with similar meaning to "answer what she says because it's better for you" was directed at him. She no longer held any great interest in the hybrid. There would be others.

Ruby perked up when the bird man in the next cage greeted her friendly. It was nice to have someone so pleasant around here, besides that scary panther man that Mariel was talking about. Mariel knew that Crone scared little Ruby because he threatened to eat her on several ocassions, wether it was a joke or real Ruby did not know, but she did know he was one of the scarier experiments. Though, Upon mention of a wolf hybrid Ruby could not help but wonder if the wolf hybrid he was sent after Emerald. Ruby knew that Emerald had been out for a while and she knew she was a wolf hybrid so the fox couldnt help but wonder the possibility of her sister still being free.
"Mr Xelly, the panther Hybrid is evil, he always said he would eat me." Ruby told the older boy, ears fla to her head. "But...he is going after your friend right? Do you think he is going to catch your wolf friend because there are other wolf hybrids and maybe he will catch them by mistake."

"I think he's got a decent chance of finding her," Xelious said, making it obvious that he didn't think much of Mariel's little 'warning' look. "Catching her, though? No. He's got his work cut out for him, and I don't think he's up to it." And if he hurts her, I'll kill him.
And what was Mariel's angle with the girl? This was interesting. Trying to feel like she wasn't aiding evil people in ruining lives? That was rich. "But you're right, Ruby. He is evil. There are a lot of people like that around here, I'm afraid."

Xelious's remark stung, bad. For a second, clawlike nails bit into her leg as she struggled to control the impulse to tackle him. But Fusion could do that. The mention of Crone being 'evil' didn't make this any better. She certainly gave no approval to threats to Ruby, but fighting Crone would do her no good.
"It's good he's not around now. Xelious was getting a hard time from him, too."
Silently she thanked Crone for keeping the hybrid in place. At least he was smart enough to realize he was in captivity. Many didn't even get the chance to learn. She was on top, and would stay that way.

"Like Doctor Fusion, he is extra mean. The Director lady also scares me too, she talks about retiring experiments all the time." Ruby sighed, her tail drooping considerably.
Ruby took the make shift blanket she had been given and wrapped it around her body, leaning up against the wall of the cage. She could'nt help but think of the world truly outside this horrible place and wonder if it was any better. The Fox girl thought of her parents and all the things she could be learning right now or the friends that she could be making or the yummy food she could be eating, but she was stuck in this place. Ruby hugged Buster closer to her, imaging for a moment that she was safe at home with a big plate of Chicken Stir Fry in front of her, with her family safe and sound but it seemed that it was not meant not meant to be, for now anyways.
"Is there a place outside of here that people like us would be safe?" Ruby asked, the innocence in her voice shinning through. "Maybe we could run from the labs there and be safe in our home...." Ruby glanced over at Mariel. "You would come and be safe from experiments, wouldn't you Miss Mariel?"
